Ixworth Angling Club

We would like to remind all residents of the village that you or your children are most welcome to join our fishing club. The new season starts on Friday 16th June and extends through to the 14th March 2018.

As a member you will be able to fish three stretches of the river Blackbourn that runs through the village. A visit to our web site www.ixworthangling.co.uk is highly recommended to obtain further details of where you can fish, the species of fish available to catch and other useful information about the club and its formation many years ago.

This year the Environment Agency have removed the rod licence fee that used to be charged for junior members over 12 years and up to 16 years of age. Juniors in this age band are still required to obtain a fishing licence but it will be issued to them at no cost. Juniors 11 years of age or under do not need a licence.

To be eligible to join the club you must live in the village or one of the surrounding villages within approximately a 6 mile radius of Ixworth.

To join the club you need to contact Mr Owen Holder who lives at 11 Thetford Road, telephone 01359 408073. Membership fees are £15 per season for Seniors, £10 for Juniors aged 12 and up to 16 years and Senior Citizens. Juniors up to 11 can join at no cost. You must see Owen Holder to join the club and bring with you a valid rod licence if required and complete the details required on our members joining card.

This year we are planning to hold our first fishing match along the "match stretch" of the river on Saturday 24th June. The second match is scheduled to will take place on the Reed lake at Hinderclay Lakes on Saturday 8th July but is subject to the interest and support we receive in advance. The third match will be on Saturday 26th August, again on the "match stretch" of the river. The fourth match will be on Saturday 30th September and on a still water, venue yet to be finalised.

Finally we would like to mention that we hope to be able to run some fishing matches for junior members only. All depends upon the interest shown by younger people joining the club. Lets hope some can be torn away from the Xboxes of PS4,s to take up a sport that has more support every week than any other outside activity. For our part we will do our utmost to help new members young or old to become true anglers and rapidly gain a passion for angling.

Many Thanks

Peter Hunwick

Chairman
